What’s holding you from affiliate success? One of my biggest hurdles as an affiliate was in the promotion of a product which hadn’t yet worked for me. I mean, how can you (in good faith) promote a “money making” product which hasn’t made you any money! It’s a problem that persisted alongside my doubt and scepticism of the product too, and of my ability to promote it successfully.
But here’s the catch 22 hidden in plain sight. How can you promote a product you don’t believe in? And how can you believe in it until you have made money selling it?
Sure you might run an advert or two, and “try” to make it work. But if deep down you don’t believe in it, (or in yourself), you’re going to sabotage all your efforts somehow, and perhaps throw a tantrum in the process!
If you see yourself as a reasonable and honest person, you would perhaps even want to warn your prospective customers that, “…erm, this actually hasn’t worked for me by the way!” – if you were a discerning and honest affiliate anyway!
So how did I get over this particular problem? Read on..
What’s Holding You From Affiliate Success?
I had to get over this problem or I knew I would fail. It took me years to find this product too! I believed in it because I had actually met the founders (and believed they were honest) and I’d met other affiliates because of it. The problem was I doubted whether I could make it work. Actually make money selling it and by extension, doubted whether most people would actually make money from it.
In fact, most people fail at business. So I knew, in effect, that only around 5% of people who bought the course would actually go on to use it as a successful platform for building wealth, or would even make any sales at all! So what got me over this barrier to success is the fact that even if only a handful of people used the product to succeed, it would have been a success. And some would benefit from it whether they chose to sell it or not. In fact, I had even used it in that way by building my martial arts school with the knowledge I had gained.
So all that was left once I had climbed over these “mental hurdles” was to create a video of me talking honestly about the product.
What’s Holding You From Affiliate Success?Aligning Your Mind For Success – (Congruency and Authenticity)
Here’s the video I came up with after all the mental gymnastics. What I realised later on that this video worked because I was being genuine, honest and authentic. I actually made a $9,000 commission from running this advert on a sale I generated.
In this clip of the video below, for example, I mention that this business is genuine but that it takes a lot of work and commitment.
I also chose to not talk about my “success”, because well, at this point I hadn’t had much more than a handful of sales. Instead I chose to talk about my journey before finding the community. The community I found was the “magic” for me after a lot of struggle with affiliate marketing beforehand, finally finding someone who could help me was amazing. I made no claims of earnings either because this didn’t feel right given my circumstances.
In short, I was being authentic, so I could feel ok about promoting a product. Many other affiliates talked about how they had built massive businesses with the affiliate sales but I hadn’t. But I refused to allow this to be a stumbling block for me and pursued it anyway. I believed in the product, the founders and the community and what they could do for people. I just hadn’t found the “financial freedom” people talk about in such videos at that point.
Clearing Your Subconscious Blockages
So at some point in your affiliate journey you may find you come up against a mental roadblock. You are unsure what action to take. Removing an unconscious “success blocker” such as doubt, fear or scepticism can take a little time and effort, but identifying the factor inhibiting you is the biggest challenge. See also the mindset of successful affiliates.
It may even be that you no longer have the desire to continue, which is fine. Unless your reason for doing affiliate marketing outweighs the need to remain as you are, nothing will happen! But, there may be an unconscious behaviour pattern holding you back which you’re, at present, unaware of.
As Carl Jung said “until you make the unconscious conscious it will control your life and you will call it fate”.
Unconscious “success blockers” will undoubtable raise their head at some stage and if you don’t identify them they are likely to sabotage your success. This is why it’s important to align your affiliate business with your values. For me, this was being honest in my video advert and maintaining integrity in the face of losing potential sales by not talking about how “successful” I was or wasn’t!
