What can an affiliate marketing mentor do for you? Before I found an affiliate mentor I was struggling big time with affiliate marketing – access the online community I found back in 2014 here. My mentor taught me which were the best products to promote and how to promote them. The main problem with affiliate marketing is that it takes a long time to understand it properly and make it work. There’s so many mistakes you can make, and I made them all!
For example, I jumped from course to course looking for the “magic bullet” which would give me easy money. Sadly no such course exists although many of them claimed they would! It’s easy to assume that it’s the “system” which is at fault when you’re not making money as an affiliate. But the likely cause is generally your lack of understanding.
You don’t know what you don’t know and the early stages of learning affiliate marketing was exasperating for me. Luckily I stuck with it long enough to find a good mentor, and continued on until I made my first high ticket sale.
Affiliate Marketing Mentor – High Ticket
I hadn’t heard the term “high ticket” as a beginner in affiliate marketing and I was dutifully promoting “low ticket” items, such as books from Amazon. The problem with this is that you make only tiny commissions when you sell low cost items, so you need to sell them in huge volume to make it work.
I carried the assumption that because I only bought low cost items online that the majority of others would do the same. The truth is that there’s millionaires/billionaires buying things online. Just knowing to sell high ticket items was a complete game changer for me. I stopped promoting tiny commission items and switched to selling affiliate products which paid much more. For example, if you were to sell the above submarine as an affiliate you would earn 8% or a cool $24,000. Just think about the volume of $10 books from Amazon you would need to sell to make the same!

The key is in the name “affiliate marketing“! Unless you become a good marketer, you’re not going to get anywhere with affiliate marketing. So once you’ve got some knowledge the main thing you should be focusing on is your marketing strategy and figuring out how to become profitable with it. I spend years focusing on the wrong tactics, such as flogging my guts out doing endless SEO stuff without success! It’s exhausting.
So many people (me included) make the mistake of watching endless hours of video footage day in day out. But once you’ve learned something tangible you should go away an implement it. Otherwise you’ll never get anywhere. Getting stuck in learning mode is addictive.
It feels as though you’re making progress when you’re actually just running an endless loop of constant learning. You should definitely spend some time learning and studying affiliate strategies. But once you have a strategy you need to get your feet wet and jump in the water!
Being A Busy Fool
So two main obstacles of affiliate marketing are getting stuck in learning mode and shiny object syndrome – constantly jumping ship looking for the next shiny course (which is easier and faster)!
But there’s other holes you can fall down too, such as being a busy fool – something I spent far too long doing! A “busy fool” wastes time online thinking that time equals money with an affiliate business. When you’re working in a job, your time gets paid for. But with affiliate marketing you only get paid for selling. If you come from an employee background it can be easy to subconsciously relate your online work with that of a job, assuming that time is money! But you’d be wrong! You need to make sales with affiliate marketing before you’ll get paid at all! So you must spend time in very specific areas.
I wasted time tweaking websites which got not traffic. I polished my logos when I didn’t understand marketing – foolishly expecting website traffic when there wasn’t any coming! To avoid being a busy fool you must concentrate your efforts on the money producing activities. These are often the actions which make you most uncomfortable, hence why they are so easy to avoid.
